Managing Difficult Conversations

On Tuesday 21st February IMPACT joined forces with Ninety One’s Inspire network to ‘Manage difficult conversations’; a very topical event for right now, with falling compensation and tough decisions being made.

We had a great turn out and the session was led by Ninety One’s Duncan Coombe. Here are his Top
Tips for difficult Conversations:

  1. Be clear about your KPI
  2. Manage you state
  3. Know how to begin
  4. Silence is powerful
  5. Preserve the relationship – the stronger the bond, the more conflict it can take
  6. Make concessions where appropriate
  7. Don’t apologise
  8. Difference and conflict are natural
  9. Remember the four sentence rule
  10. Ask them to summarise the key message
