IMPACT Newsletter August 2019

As August draws to a close, we are thinking about how to elongate the relaxed holiday persona a little longer at work. To try and stop worrying about the smaller things, taking time to speak with colleagues and engage with activities that are not just about work. Does this affect productivity negatively? Definitely. But will the positive impact be better for the long term? 100%!

We have reached the limit in numbers for our fashion event with Capital Group in September but have many interesting ideas bubbling away for future events.

Below are a selection of articles that provide insight into pertinent issues for our IMPACT members. This month shows the stark contrast of females entering the business, versus those staying and reaching the senior positions. Leverton sees such a change in our clients’ behaviours that we can only think that change will happen. However, like anything in Investment Management, it will be years before it impacts government figures and needs constant attention.

Shorter trading days

The Association for Financial Markets in Europe are planning on discussing this with their members. I think it would be a game changer for males and females who work in or have given up working in front office roles as the demands are at odds with family life.

The Times offers a good insight into this; also quoting the best film ever ‘Working Girl’.

 

More women than ever entering the industry

This article highlights the appalling failure rate of the CFA Level I; 59% this year (!). More positively, the number of women sitting the tests has more than doubled over the past five years to 39%.
